Child seats in selected cambio cars in Brussels starting May 23!
Good news for Brussels families: from May 23, 19 Cambio cars in the Brussels-Capital Region will be equipped with an integrated child seat.
This project is made possible with the support of Brussels Environment and Brussels Mobility as part of the “Inclusive Carsharing” initiative.
Cambio Brussels is one of the selected projects aimed at making shared mobility more accessible to everyone, including families with young children.
Which seat is it?
It’s the ONETO3 i-Size de Kinderkraft : an adjustable child seat that grows with the child and covers a wide age range — from 15 months to 12 years (76 to 150 cm – 9 to 36 kg).
This model was selected following a survey conducted among our users, with the valuable support of the Ligue des Familles. It complies with the latest European safety standards (R129 “i-Size”).
Test phase 🚀
Before the full rollout, a pilot phase will be launched starting in spring 2025. The goal? To ensure the service meets the needs of families and to gather their feedback.
During this period, each Brussels municipality will have at least one car location with a vehicle equipped with a child seat. This ensures a good balance between accessibility for families and availability of other vehicles for all users.
How do you reserve a car with a child seat?
When making your reservation in the Cambio app, select the “child seat” option under “change equipment.”
Please note: you might be offered a car with a child seat even if you didn’t request one, for example if it’s the last small city car available at your chosen station. In this case, you can temporarily move the seat (store it at home or in the trunk), but you must put it back before your reservation ends. Otherwise, you will be responsible for its disappearance.
No child seat available or need a seat in a different vehicle category when booking?
We’ve got you covered! It will be possible to have a limited number of child seats installed on request via our customer service in any type of vehicle.
This service is currently in a testing phase and won’t be available immediately. Once launched, you will need to request it at least 3 working days before your reservation starts. Additionally, a user agreement must be signed and returned to customer service before the reservation begins. This agreement will specify the conditions for using the child seat, including cases of loss, theft, or damage.
Territorial Distribution
To select the stations that will host vehicles equipped with child seats, several criteria were considered. Some are territorial in nature (e.g., central location of the station within the municipality or accessibility via public transport), while others are more operational (such as the size of the stations, which ensures that small cars without child seats remain available to all users, even at stations selected for the pilot phase).
Each Brussels municipality will have at least one station with a vehicle equipped with a child seat. This choice ensures a good balance between accessibility for families and availability of other vehicles for all users. At the end of the pilot phase and after possible adjustments, 50 cambio vehicles will be available, evenly distributed throughout the region.
